Senior Privacy Counsel (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA; on-site

What you will do

• Advise product, engineering, operations, marketing, and other teams on global privacy laws and regulations, including GDPR, the EU AI Act, and DORA.
• Build and own the global privacy counseling and compliance program.
• Develop privacy expertise for regulated customer industries, including healthcare, insurance, banking, telecommunications, and financial services.
• Draft, review, and negotiate data processing agreements, business associate agreements, and other commercial privacy terms.
• Manage privacy incident response and notification obligations.
• Develop AI governance policies and training, monitor emerging regulations, and engage with regulators and industry stakeholders.

Requirements

• 8+ years of legal experience combining large international law firm and in-house technology company experience.
• Deep knowledge of global privacy laws, including GDPR, CCPA, and US state privacy laws, as well as AI regulatory frameworks such as the EU AI Act and NIST AI Risk Management Framework.
• Strong understanding of AI products, LLMs, and related legal issues.
• Extensive experience drafting and negotiating DPAs, BAAs, and commercial privacy provisions.
• Ability to assess privacy risks, implement compliance solutions, and balance legal and business objectives in a fast-growing environment.
• Strong communication, analytical, mentoring, and stakeholder-partnership skills.

Nice to have

• Experience building privacy programs in regulated industries or high-growth technology companies.
• Experience engaging with regulators and policymakers on AI and privacy issues.
• CIPP/US, CIPP/E, or a similar certification.
• Experience developing trust and safety or responsible AI programs.
• Startup experience and comfort with rapid iteration and ambiguity.
