TL;DR
Sr. Mgr., Mechanical Design Engineering & Structural Integrity (Aerospace): Managing a 10–12-person engineering department responsible for mechanical design, CAD modeling, design calculations, MRB evaluations, and structural integrity analyses with an accent on aerospace actuation, transmissions, and power electronics. Focus on evaluating stress, thermal, and vibration results, leading technical customer communication, allocating engineering resources, and developing department governance and performance indicators.

Location: Shelby, North Carolina, United States (greater Charlotte area)

Salary: $150,600–$200,000 per year plus bonus opportunity

What you will do

  • Manage approximately 10–12 mechanical design and structural integrity engineering team members.
  • Oversee conceptual design, gear design, component and assembly modeling, and CAD development.
  • Direct design calculations, requirements validation, MRB evaluations, and non-conformance substantiation.
  • Lead structural integrity analyses covering stress, thermal, and vibration characteristics.
  • Oversee technical documentation, including drawings, reports, and SDRLs.
  • Coordinate with customers and leaders in Program Management, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality on technical issues, proposals, progress, and resolution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, aerospace, or equivalent engineering is required.
  • 15–20 years of experience managing complex mechanical component design and analysis in aerospace, automotive, commercial vehicle, or industrial industries.
  • Experience managing an engineering department with solid-line reporting and allocating resources across project teams.
  • Experience with CAD and PLM systems, such as Siemens NX and Teamcenter, or equivalent.
  • Experience evaluating Ansys or equivalent results for component stress, thermal, and vibration characteristics.
  • Experience with FMEA/FMECA, bid and proposal creation, root-cause and corrective-action methods, department governance, KPIs, and technical talent development.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in mechanical, electrical, aerospace, or equivalent engineering.
  • Experience with actuators, transmissions, power transmission systems, geared products, or associated hardware.
