Mechanical Design Engineering Manager (Aerospace)

Location: Mojave, California, United States; onsite. Travel is estimated at less than 10%.

Base salary: $157,000–$206,000 annually for Manager level; $181,000–$237,000 annually for Senior Manager level.

What you will do

• Manage and develop the Mechanical Design Section and its engineering talent.
• Provide technical guidance, peer review, and support for ground and flight mechanical systems.
• Establish and enforce technical best practices and standards with senior technical leaders.
• Lead recruiting, hiring, performance management, and employee development activities.
• Coordinate staffing across programs, resolve resource conflicts, and support strategic staffing initiatives.
• Contribute to proposals and chargeable program or support work while balancing management responsibilities.

Requirements

• Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Demonstrated success as an individual technical contributor or technical team leader.
• Experience recruiting and hiring technical employees.
• Technical expertise in at least one engineering domain relevant to mechanical design.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related discipline and 10+ years of relevant experience for Manager level, or 15+ years for Senior Manager level.
• US citizenship and the ability to obtain a DOD security clearance are required.

Nice to have

• Experience in matrixed organizations and staffing personnel across multiple programs.
• Experience managing technical teams of 10 or more in resource-constrained aerospace development environments.
• Active DOD security clearance.
