TL;DR
Supplier Development Engineer (Aerospace): Developing and scaling manufacturing suppliers for commercial planetary rovers with an accent on supplier performance, manufacturing readiness, quality, and production continuity. Focus on leading process reviews, solving supplier manufacturing and quality issues, driving corrective actions, and supporting production ramps across machining, fabrication, welding, composites, castings, electronics, and assemblies.

Location: Hawthorne, California; onsite. Travel to supplier facilities, including domestic and international travel, may be required up to 50%.

Salary: $137,000–$177,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Own supplier performance across quality, delivery, manufacturing readiness, capacity, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead supplier assessments, process reviews, production readiness activities, and onsite supplier development.
  • Improve supplier manufacturing capability, reduce process variation, and increase production efficiency.
  • Lead root cause investigations and corrective and preventive actions.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, and Inspection to resolve technical and production issues.
  • Support supplier risk mitigation, new product introductions, supplier qualifications, process transfers, and production ramps.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related STEM field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience in supplier quality, supplier development, manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, operations, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes such as machining, fabrication, welding, composites, castings, electronics, assemblies, or special processes.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Experience with structured problem-solving and root cause analysis for manufacturing or quality issues.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%, including domestic and international travel.

Nice to have

  • Experience with suppliers in aerospace, defense, automotive, medical device, or other high-performance manufacturing environments.
  • Experience supporting new product introductions, supplier qualifications, or production ramp activities.
  • Experience analyzing supplier performance metrics or manufacturing data.
  • Experience with quality management systems, CAPA, or supplier audits.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
