Senior Mechanisms Systems Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and integrating mission-critical rocket mechanisms such as thrust vector control systems with an accent on requirements, system architecture, and verification across mechanical, avionics, GNC, and software interfaces. Focus on authoring and executing development tests, coordinating manufacturing and integration schedules, and solving emergent challenges through test fixtures, sensor specification, automation, and root-cause investigations.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; occasional travel to test and launch sites, including shifted or weekend schedules for critical milestones

Hiring range: $132,000–$181,500 USD annually

What you will do

  • Own the technical and programmatic development of complex mechanism systems such as thrust vector control.
  • Define system concepts of operations, requirements, architectures, and verification plans.
  • Lead integration across mechanical design, actuators, GNC, avionics, and software teams.
  • Author test plans, execute development and functional verification tests, and establish success criteria.
  • Coordinate design, manufacturing, integration, and test schedules for complex mechanism systems.
  • Address technical and logistical risks and lead hands-on work such as fixture design, sensor specification, test automation, and root-cause investigations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or a related engineering field.
  • 5+ years of experience designing, manufacturing, assembling, or testing complex mechanical or electromechanical systems.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary projects and delivering against ambitious schedules.
  • Strong technical judgment and the ability to communicate complex concepts to engineering and leadership audiences.
  • Experience balancing requirements, cost, and schedule while driving system integration and verification.

Nice to have

  • Experience with actuator systems, flight mechanisms, or thrust vector control.
  • Experience with motor-control tuning and model-based design using MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Experience with integrated hardware/software testing and verification.
  • Familiarity with reusability and rapid-iteration development environments.
