TL;DR
Propulsion Design Reliability Engineer (Aerospace): Guiding the design, verification, and validation of the Haven-1 propulsion system for a human-rated commercial space station with an accent on reliability engineering, FMEA, fault-tree analysis, and qualification testing. Location: Onsite in Long Beach, California, United States. The role involves access to U.S. export-controlled information and requires the candidate to be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.

Salary: $162,360–$265,392 per year.

What you will do

  • Guide the design, verification, and validation of the Haven-1 propulsion system.
  • Lead FMEA, fault-tree analysis, risk assessments, and reliability improvements across flight, launch, and ground support systems.
  • Review mechanical designs, engineering analyses, manufacturing drawings, test plans, and concepts of operations during major design reviews and risk gates.
  • Define acceptance and qualification test expectations, review verification data, and identify risks during hardware test campaigns.
  • Develop propulsion engineering standards, design criteria, review frameworks, reliability checklists, and technical guidance.
  • Coordinate design changes, configuration management, risk mitigation, and traceability across engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related engineering discipline.
  • At least 6 years of relevant professional experience in responsible engineering, design ownership, systems integration, test engineering, or reliability-focused development.
  • Experience with complex aerospace systems, spacecraft, aircraft, launch vehicles, or other mission- or safety-critical systems.
  • Hands-on experience designing, assembling, integrating, or testing hardware.
  • Experience with reliability methodologies, fracture control, human-rated hardware standards, manufacturing processes, materials selection, or hardware qualification pathways.
  • Must qualify as a U.S. person or be eligible for a deemed export license under U.S. export-control regulations.

Nice to have

  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in responsible engineering, systems engineering, an Office of the Chief Engineer, or reliability engineering roles.
  • Experience creating engineering standards, review templates, or technical guidance frameworks.
  • Strong scripting and data analysis skills with Python, MATLAB, or Excel, plus familiarity with visualization tools such as Tableau.
