Design Engineer (Nuclear Valves)

Location: East Farmingdale, New York, United States. Must be a US citizen; the position may involve access to export-controlled information and additional security screening.

Salary: $83,800–$110,000 per year.

Target Rock develops highly engineered severe-service valves and related products for the U.S. Navy nuclear fleet and the global nuclear power generation industry.

What you will do

• Direct and perform complete valve designs, including layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, 3D models, and 2D drawings.
• Perform clearance and stack-up studies, engineering analyses, calculations, and design report preparation and review.
• Select materials and hardware and review specifications for compliance with proposed designs.
• Coordinate design work with Design/Drafting, Project Engineering, Manufacturing, Welding, and Quality Control.
• Standardize design methods and analysis techniques and oversee design reports prepared by sub-tier suppliers.
• Lead internally and externally funded design and development programs and maintain the Product Improvement and Development Program.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering.
• US citizenship required.
• At least two years of 2D and 3D CAD experience.
• Knowledge of valve design and drafting practices, product applications, and industry requirements.
• Proficiency in tolerance/fit-up, structural, thermal, and flow analysis, plus working knowledge of finite element analysis.
• Working knowledge of ASME B&PV Code and/or SDB-63/VDM-71 and other applicable industry codes, including Y14.5, B16.5, B16.34, B18.3, and B31.1.

Nice to have

• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Mathcad, LabVIEW, NX, Teamcenter, and ANSYS.
