Principal Hardware Engineer (Defense)

Location: Remote in Massachusetts, USA; US citizenship required

Salary: $144,100–$190,000 per year plus bonus

What you will do

• Lead the design and development of 3U and 6U VPX single-board computers, FPGA, switch, and I/O cards.
• Design custom form-factor systems integrating hardware, firmware, software, security elements, power supplies, and thermal management, including Liquid-Flow-Through methods.
• Collaborate with engineering, project management, testing, operations, business development, and customer teams to translate requirements into practical system designs.
• Assess technical and economic feasibility, lead teams, introduce engineering best practices, and improve product performance, reliability, and time-to-market.
• Direct testing for new or modified equipment and develop technical procedures, documentation, and manuals.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; a master’s degree is preferred.
• At least 15 years of experience in DoD embedded systems and hardware design; 20+ years is preferred.
• Extensive experience with mixed-signal, high-speed digital, analog, low-power, and high-current circuit design in high-reliability environments.
• Experience designing 26+ layer HDI PCBs with multilamination, blind and buried vias, and uVia structures.
• Hands-on experience with Siemens Expedition DX Designer and Siemens Expedition PCB tools.
• US citizenship is required; an active DoD security clearance is preferred. Additional security screening may apply for export-controlled information.
