TL;DR
Electrical Hardware Engineer – Avionics (Aerospace): Designing, manufacturing, and testing PCB-based spacecraft avionics for primary and secondary systems with an accent on component selection, embedded programming, and integrated hardware verification. Focus on developing board- and system-level test procedures, supporting environmental and qualification testing, and solving complex avionics integration and debugging challenges.

Location: Hybrid-based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. Applicants must be a U.S. Person eligible to obtain required export authorizations under ITAR and EAR.

Salary: $80,000–$130,000 base salary per year, depending on experience, skills, and location.

What you will do

  • Design PCBs for spacecraft primary and secondary avionics systems.
  • Perform trade studies and select components for engineering and flight avionics units.
  • Develop and execute component-, board-, and system-level test procedures.
  • Test fabricated PCBs and integrated avionics systems, including hardware-in-the-loop testing.
  • Participate in environmental testing of engineering units and qualification testing of flight units.
  • Program embedded systems, FPGAs, microcontrollers, processors, and related hardware; report progress and present technical findings.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience in electronics hardware development.
  • Proficiency in schematic and board design using Altium, Eagle, OrCAD, or similar tools.
  • Experience using power supplies, electronic loads, multimeters, and oscilloscopes to test assembled PCBs or integrated systems.
  • Rapid prototyping and strong hardware debugging skills.
  • U.S. Person status and eligibility for required U.S. export authorizations are mandatory.

Nice to have

  • Experience with computing, signal conditioning, control electronics, filtering, data acquisition, and command and data handling systems.
  • Experience writing test plans, qualification procedures, and Python-based automated test scripts.
  • Experience with PCBA inspection and IPC-A-610 Class 3 rework.
  • Systems engineering experience, including requirements, risk, and integration management.
  • Familiarity with NASA-STD 4001, NASA-STD 4003, and MIL-STD-461 or similar standards.
