TL;DR
Lead Electrical Hardware Engineer (Avionics) (Spacecraft Electronics): Leading the development, manufacturing, and testing of in-house flight avionics hardware with an accent on computing, signal conditioning, control electronics, data acquisition, and command and data handling. Focus on leading avionics engineering operations, establishing design and test standards, and solving electrical anomalies during component, vehicle assembly, and environmental testing.

Location: Hybrid, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. Applicants must be a U.S. Person eligible to obtain required export authorizations under ITAR and EAR.

Base salary: $140,000–$160,000 per year, excluding benefits and bonus or incentive compensation.

What you will do

  • Lead the development, manufacturing, and testing of flight avionics hardware across product lines.
  • Manage daily avionics team operations, scheduling, tasking, and technical delivery.
  • Provide technical and programmatic guidance to employees, subcontractors, consultants, and partner personnel.
  • Establish review processes and internal standards for hardware design, circuit analysis, testing, and documentation.
  • Act as an independent reviewer for subsystem and vehicle phase-gate and milestone design reviews.
  • Drive troubleshooting, failure investigation, and resolution of electrical anomalies during testing, assembly, and environmental qualification.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in electronics hardware development.
  • Experience with component or LRU electrical design.
  • B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proficiency in schematic and board design using Altium, Eagle, OrCAD, or similar tools.
  • Ability to mentor and lead small engineering teams developing complex products.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, or other protected U.S. individual under applicable export regulations.

Nice to have

  • Spacecraft electronics experience, especially for Class D unmanned spacecraft or similar systems.
  • High-speed digital PCB design and VITA VPX or SpaceVPX experience.
  • Experience with FPGA, microcontroller, processor, or graphics processor programming.
  • Knowledge of NASA-STD 4001, NASA-STD 4003, MIL-STD 461, range and ground safety electronics compliance, and space environmental testing.
  • Experience with mechanical CAD tools, Microsoft Project, JIRA, or similar tools; an M.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
