Machinist Inspector

Location: US-SC-Summerville (SAS); candidates must be US citizens and able to obtain and maintain DoD security clearances and approvals.

Hourly rate: $32–$46.

Steam & Air Solutions provides turbine-drive and shipboard compression equipment for the U.S. Navy, including propulsion, power generation, pump drives, and ship service air systems.

What you will do

• Inspect tight-tolerance machined parts using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, bore gages, CMM equipment, and other precision metrology tools.
• Conduct independent, in-process, material receipt, and pre-shipping inspections for dimensional conformance, strength, cleanliness, hardness, packaging, and endurance.
• Identify nonconformances early and ensure work meets safety and quality standards.
• Prepare official inspection reports for government submission.
• Help define inspection requirements from component design drawings and technical specifications.
• Collaborate with team members and mentor junior inspectors to improve productivity and team capability.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain DoD security clearances are required.
• High school diploma or equivalent; a four-year machinist apprenticeship or equivalent is an asset.
• Proficiency with dimensional measurement equipment and the ability to accurately read analog devices down to .0001 inch.
• Knowledge of cutting tools, machining techniques, and machining principles.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings, including GD&T.
• Mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, effective communication, and ability to lift 50 pounds to waist height and transport it 10 feet.
