Data Security Consultant (Cybersecurity)

Location: Chicago, IL; hybrid arrangement with 2 days per week on-site in Chicago. Remote work may be available for non-local employees.

Salary: $130,000–$150,000 per year for the Chicago market, based on experience, qualifications, and position location.

What you will do

• Develop, maintain, and enhance enterprise data security frameworks, standards, procedures, and control requirements.
• Assess data security risks, review control effectiveness, and support compliance oversight.
• Advise technology and project teams on data security requirements and control design across cloud, analytics, and emerging technology environments.
• Advance data security capabilities, including data discovery platforms, DSPM solutions, Databricks, and Microsoft Azure controls.
• Collaborate with technology, risk management, compliance, legal, data owners, and business stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities to improve governance, oversight processes, and the organization’s data protection posture.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in information security, data security, cybersecurity, risk management, compliance, or a related field.
• Experience combining security governance with technical advisory responsibilities in a complex environment.
• Knowledge of governance frameworks, control design, risk management principles, and compliance expectations.
• Experience with data discovery platforms, DSPM solutions, Databricks, Microsoft Azure, and data security considerations for generative AI.
• Ability to assess issues, identify control gaps, and communicate actionable recommendations to technical and business audiences.
• A degree or diploma in Information Security, Cyber Security, or a related discipline is preferred. Applicants must be legally eligible to work in the specified location; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• CISSP, CCSP, or CDPSE certification.
• Experience providing mentorship and working with security technologies and testing.
