EMI-EMC Test Specialist (Aerospace): Building and maintaining EMI-EMC test capabilities for human-rated spacecraft and avionics with an accent on MIL-STD-461 and DO-160 compliance, tailored standards, and test procedures. Focus on developing test automation, characterizing shielding effectiveness, addressing grounding and bonding, and guiding cross-disciplinary teams through complex electromagnetic compatibility challenges.

Location: Onsite in Long Beach, California, United States

Salary: $40–$63 per hour, depending on specialist level and qualifications.

What you will do

  • Build and maintain EMI-EMC test capabilities for spacecraft and components.
  • Implement industry standards tailored to hirify.global spacecraft and avionics.
  • Develop EMI-EMC test procedures and support spacecraft and component testing.
  • Guide cross-functional teams on EMI-EMC design and testing best practices.
  • Support hiring for EMI-EMC technician and engineering roles.
  • Explain how EMC affects subsystems and disciplines in human-rated spacecraft.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in an EMI-EMC-related role.
  • 7+ years of experience with MIL-STD-461 and DO-160 testing.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, accountability, and integrity.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing due to U.S. export controls.
  • Willingness to work overtime or weekends during critical mission milestones.

Nice to have

  • Software development experience for EMI-EMC test automation.
  • Experience with spacecraft charging, triboelectrification, grounding and bonding, and shielding-effectiveness characterization.
  • Electronics prototyping skills, including soldering, breadboarding, and troubleshooting with common lab equipment.
  • Experience with digital communications buses such as Ethernet, RS-422, PCIe, and GMII.
  • Background in electromagnetics, triboelectrification, and plasma effects in spacecraft systems.
