TL;DR
EMI/EMC Technician (Aerospace) (DO-160/MIL-STD-461): Performing electromagnetic compatibility and environmental testing for aircraft systems, avionics, and electrical components with an accent on RF measurement, test equipment configuration, and rigorous documentation. Focus on troubleshooting complex test setups, operating specialized chambers, fabricating fixtures and harnesses, and supporting EMI mitigation investigations.

Location: Onsite in St. Albans, Vermont, United States

What you will do

  • Perform EMI/EMC and environmental testing for aircraft systems, avionics, and electrical components according to DO-160, MIL-STD-461, and other applicable standards.
  • Set up, configure, operate, and maintain RF and electrical test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, signal generators, amplifiers, antennas, LISNs, current probes, oscilloscopes, and VNAs.
  • Fabricate and maintain test fixtures, cable harnesses, and interconnect assemblies.
  • Operate semi-anechoic and reverberation chambers and document test results through photographs, data captures, and detailed reports.
  • Troubleshoot test setups and equipment, improve test procedures, and maintain internal and external testing tools.
  • Support design teams with EMI mitigation strategies, troubleshooting investigations, and safe testing practices.

Requirements

  • Two-year engineering degree or certificate from an accredited institution, or at least two years of experience in EMI/EMC testing or a related technical field.
  • At least one year of experience performing EMI/EMC or related electronics testing.
  • Familiarity with RF measurement equipment and the ability to interpret electronic drawings, specifications, and schematics.
  • Ability to fabricate test fixtures, cable harnesses, or electromechanical assemblies.
  • Ability to assist with problem analysis, make independent decisions, communicate effectively, and work safely in physically demanding environments.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications, including SharePoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of DO-160 or MIL-STD-461 and experience in semi-anechoic, shielded-room, or reverberation-chamber testing.
  • Python or similar scripting experience for test automation, plus CAD experience.
  • Experience with flight hardware, aerospace environmental testing, high-power or high-voltage systems, and EMC test software.
  • Familiarity with A2LA, ISO 17025, TILE!, EMC32, ELEKTRA, BAT-EMC, or similar tools.
