TL;DR
Senior Avionics Engineer (Aerospace): Designing, testing, and producing avionics systems for reusable Earth-return vehicles and ground support equipment with an accent on electrical architecture, PCBAs, harnesses, and spacecraft integration. Focus on owning avionics subsystems end to end, automating hardware testing, troubleshooting system-level electronics, and balancing radiation tolerance with budget and schedule constraints.

Location: Playa Vista, California; in person five days per week

Salary: $175,000–$185,000 per year, plus annual performance-based bonuses and equity

hirify.global is an orbital logistics company building reusable Earth-return vehicles for in-space manufacturing, on-orbit warehousing, commercial cargo, national security logistics, research payloads, and critical aid delivery.

What you will do

  • Develop electrical architectures, design circuits, capture schematics, and lay out PCBAs.
  • Design custom electrical harnesses and oversee harness builds.
  • Develop and support electrical ground equipment and test hardware, including HITL and FlatSat setups.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and troubleshoot electronics issues in spacecraft and ground systems.
  • Make build-versus-buy decisions and coordinate with external vendors on hardware delivery and quality.
  • Define avionics best practices covering documentation, design reviews, and hardware development processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience designing and building electrical hardware for high-reliability applications such as aerospace, defense, or automotive.
  • Experience with PCBs, PCBAs, wiring, and harnessing.
  • Working knowledge of aerospace materials and their behavior in extreme thermal environments.
  • Hands-on experience with multimeters, signal generators, oscilloscopes, electronic loads, or similar electrical test equipment.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual under 22 C.F.R. § 120.15, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Nice to have

  • Ability to write Python or similar scripts to automate hardware testing.
  • Clean-sheet design experience with embedded systems, power distribution, instrumentation, sensors, avionics, or analog and mixed-signal circuits.
  • Experience balancing radiation tolerance with budget and schedule constraints.
  • Experience integrating vehicle systems or debugging system-level electrical issues.
