Senior Software Engineer - Back End / Java, Spring Boot, Kafka (Java)

Location: In-office in Strongsville, Ohio or Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States

Salary: $86,250–$143,750 annually, plus incentive eligibility.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and deliver enterprise-scale backend applications and microservices.
• Architect Kafka-based event-driven systems and distributed services.
• Build REST APIs and backend services with Java and Spring Boot.
• Drive architecture decisions focused on scalability, reliability, maintainability, performance, security, and compliance.
• Collaborate with architects, product managers, business stakeholders, engineering, and DevOps teams.
• Troubleshoot production issues, improve observability and resiliency, and support CI/CD and cloud-native deployments.

Requirements

• Strong expertise in Java 11/17+ and extensive experience with Spring Boot.
• Hands-on experience designing Kafka-based event-driven architectures.
• Strong understanding of microservices, distributed systems, software design patterns, and object-oriented design.
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs and working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Git, application testing, and technical documentation.
• Bachelor’s degree and typically 3+ years of relevant industry experience, or a comparable combination of education and experience. Employment visa sponsorship and STEM OPT participation are not available.
