TL;DR
Staff Engineer, Structural Designer (Aerospace): Designing and developing complex structural systems for autonomous aircraft launch and recovery vehicles with an accent on CAD, tolerance analysis, materials selection, and structural integrity. Focus on kinematic and finite element analysis, prototyping and testing mechanisms, and integrating flight-ready systems with cross-functional engineering teams.

Location: Dallas, Texas; on-site

Company

hirify.global develops autonomous AI and aircraft products, including UAV platforms and launch and recovery systems.

What you will do

  • Design complex structural systems for autonomous aircraft launch and recovery vehicles.
  • Own the design process from concept development and CAD through tolerance analysis, material selection, and drawing release.
  • Perform kinematic, structural, hand-calculation, and preliminary finite element analyses.
  • Prototype, test, and iterate mechanisms for functionality, reliability, and mission readiness.
  • Collaborate with electrical, avionics, flight controls, manufacturing, and test teams during prototype integration and pre-production builds.
  • Participate in design reviews, architecture discussions, technical decisions, and improvements to engineering workflows.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 7+ years of mechanical or mechanism design experience for ground vehicles.
  • Strong CAD skills, preferably using NX.
  • Experience with kinematic analysis and optimization; structural analysis; and linear, nonlinear, modal, buckling, and fatigue FEA.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, materials selection, alloys, heat treatments, allowables, and finishes.
  • Ability to work independently in fast-paced, cross-functional teams; ability to obtain a S//SAR-level security clearance is desired.

Nice to have

  • Experience with UAVs, aircraft, or robotic systems.
  • Familiarity with electromechanical actuators.
  • Proficiency in FMEA, DOE, and root cause analysis.
  • Hands-on machine shop or mechanic experience.
  • Experience with MIL-STD-810, structural testing, or actuated mechanism testing.

Culture & Benefits

  • Mission-driven work on autonomous aircraft platforms.
  • Cross-disciplinary collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, and testing.
  • Fast-paced, high-ownership environment focused on product performance, schedule, reliability, and field deployment.
  • Emphasis on high standards, trustworthiness, hard work, and respectful collaboration.
