Senior Mechanical Engineer, Structures (Aerospace)

What you will do

• Own the design of primary and secondary structures for large-scale, human-rated space stations.
• Evaluate static and dynamic loads, vibrations, thermal conditions, and other environmental factors to guide structural design decisions.
• Perform mechanical design and analysis, create manufacturing drawings and test plans, and develop concepts of operations.
• Lead design trades and own interfaces with subsystem teams.
• Work with fabricators and technicians to improve designs, develop manufacturing processes, and resolve hardware issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, civil engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related field.
• 4+ years of experience with CAD and FEA software packages.
• 4+ years of experience designing and developing mechanical components or systems.
• Must be a U.S. person under U.S. export control regulations or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.
• U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, lawful permanent residents, and asylees or refugees with granted status are eligible under the stated export-control requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience designing structures and components for high-performance vehicles or spacecraft.
• Failure analysis and root-cause investigation experience.
• Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Experience with NX, Teamcenter, Ansys, Femap/Nastran, or Abaqus.
• Experience with GD&T and ASME Y14.5, plus familiarity with spacecraft standards such as SMC-S-016 and NASA-STD-5001.
