Senior Mechanical Engineer (AI Infrastructure)

Location: Melbourne, Australia. Travel: approximately 10–30%, primarily during project delivery and commissioning.

Salary: £160,000–£200,000 per year.

What you will do

• Develop mechanical engineering designs and technical documentation from concept through commissioning.
• Deliver mechanical systems within a data centre MEP environment across the full project lifecycle.
• Manage technical engagement with consultants, contractors, suppliers, and delivery partners.
• Review designs, technical submissions, workshop drawings, equipment selections, and Operations & Maintenance documentation.
• Conduct site inspections, participate in commissioning and system testing, and optimise performance.
• Develop engineering standards and design guidelines, support research and development, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• At least 8 years of engineering experience, including 5 years in the data centre MEP sector.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and HVAC systems.
• Experience applying international engineering standards, including ASHRAE.
• Experience delivering mechanical systems through design, construction, and commissioning.
• Strong analytical, communication, documentation, testing, and problem-solving skills in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of Asia-Pacific data centre standards and industry practices.
