What you will do

• Design, prototype, test, and document materials and manufacturing processes for rocket hardware.
• Design and prototype thermal protection subsystems and hardware, including coupon fabrication, testing, and documentation.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for high-temperature composite troubleshooting and problem resolution.
• Share hands-on technical expertise and mentor or train new team members on materials skills and processes.
• Advise the program manager on day-to-day laboratory operations.
• Contribute to the Materials Discovery team and support mission success.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in natural science, materials, or a related field.
• 10+ years of hands-on experience processing and testing high-temperature aerospace materials.
• Experience with lamination, honeycomb core assembly, final bagging, de-tooling, and resin infusion.
• Experience with filament winding, Polymer Infiltration and Pyrolysis, Chemical Vapor Deposition, bond preparation, and surface preparation.
• Experience with thermal protection systems, heat shields, TPS tiles, ablative materials, ceramic matrix composites, cork bonding, and silicone RTV adhesives.
• Experience fabricating composite panels and processing or machining advanced heat-shield composites.

Nice to have

• Experience operating DSC, LFA, TGA, dilatometer, and Instron load-frame testing instruments.
• CAD and software skills.
