TL;DR
Staff Lead Engineer Engineer – Interior Cockpit (Automotive Interiors): Leading the design, development, and launch of vehicle interior cockpit systems across instrument panels, floor consoles, decorative trim, and interior lighting with an accent on quality, manufacturability, cost, and execution discipline. Focus on solving complex technical challenges, improving materials and system architecture, mentoring engineers, and coordinating suppliers and global partners through SOP.

Location: Hybrid in Warren, Michigan, United States; reporting to the specified location at least 3 times per week. Travel required up to 25%. The role is not eligible for relocation benefits.

What you will do

  • Lead the design, development, and launch of interior cockpit systems, including instrument panels, floor consoles, decorative trim, and interior lighting.
  • Mentor engineers and strengthen technical rigor, execution discipline, and delivery performance.
  • Improve materials, manufacturing processes, and system architecture to enhance quality, manufacturability, cost, and speed.
  • Lead resolution of complex, high-visibility technical challenges and support urgent issue resolution when required.
  • Manage multiple programs and priorities while influencing cross-functional teams without direct authority.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and global partners during builds and program support activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • At least 8 years of experience in interior systems, such as instrument panels, floor consoles, decorative trim, or interior lighting.
  • Expertise in injection-molded trim, foam-in-place, thermoformed skins, and cut-and-sew wrapped substrates.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory, performance, and validation requirements.
  • Demonstrated success launching interior subsystems through SOP, with strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without current or future GM immigration sponsorship is required. The role also requires regular legal operation of a motor vehicle and successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Report review.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Engineering.
  • 10 or more years of experience in interior systems.
  • Design release or manufacturing engineering experience.
  • DFSS Master Black Belt or DFSS Black Belt certification.
