TL;DR
Specialist, Manufacturing Engineer - Assembly Interior (Automotive): Developing and industrializing vehicle interior components for high-volume General Assembly production with an accent on design for manufacturing, ergonomics, quality, and assembly feasibility. Focus on analyzing CAD data and simulations, reducing manufacturing risks and rework, and coordinating production readiness across Manufacturing, Quality, Production Control, and Engineering.

Location: Columbia, South Carolina, United States; onsite 4–5 days per week. Domestic and international travel is required approximately 10% of the time, and a valid driver's license is required.

Annual base salary: $100,000–$125,000, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

  • Lead Design for Manufacturing activities for interior components, ensuring high-volume production, quality, and ergonomic requirements are met.
  • Define and implement manufacturing requirements that influence interior product design and General Assembly concepts.
  • Act as the primary contact between Manufacturing, Production Planning, and Engineering for interior manufacturing topics.
  • Analyze vehicle interiors using CAD data, simulations, and virtual testing to identify manufacturing risks, assembly constraints, and quality issues.
  • Implement product and process improvements that reduce rework, stabilize production, and improve manufacturing efficiency.
  • Provide technical guidance, coordinate team activities, and support project milestones and production readiness.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional experience in manufacturing engineering or production planning for General Assembly, including experience establishing stable production processes.
  • At least 1 year of experience with CAD modeling.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; a master's degree is a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of vehicle engineering processes.
  • Strong organizational navigation, cross-functional collaboration, problem-solving, and judgment skills.
  • Ability to work onsite in Columbia, South Carolina, 4–5 days per week, with occasional domestic and international travel.
