TL;DR
Avionics Design Reliability Engineer (Aerospace): Guiding the design, verification, and validation of avionics, RF, and power systems for Haven-1 with an accent on human-rated reliability, FMEA, and qualification testing. Focus on identifying failure risks, building engineering standards and review frameworks, and shepherding flight hardware from detailed design through integration and test.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; onsite. The role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information, so candidates must be U.S. persons or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.

Salary: $162,360–$265,392 USD annually.

hirify.global develops next-generation commercial space stations, including the Haven-1 human-rated space station, for microgravity research, manufacturing, and a permanent human presence in space.

What you will do

  • Guide the design, verification, and validation of Haven-1 avionics, RF, and power systems.
  • Lead FMEA and fault tree analysis, quantify failure risks, and drive design improvements.
  • Review hardware designs, manufacturing drawings, test plans, and verification and validation data.
  • Set standards for acceptance and qualification testing of flight systems and support hardware integration and test.
  • Develop engineering standards, design criteria, review templates, reliability checklists, and automation tools.
  • Coordinate design changes, configuration management, risk management, and traceability across engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related engineering discipline.
  • At least 6 years of experience in responsible engineering, design ownership, systems integration, test engineering, or reliability-focused development.
  • Experience with hardware design, assembly, integration, or testing for aerospace or other mission- or safety-critical systems.
  • Knowledge of reliability methodologies, fracture control, human-rated hardware standards, manufacturing processes, materials selection, and qualification pathways.
  • Strong scripting and data analysis skills using Python, MATLAB, or Excel, plus familiarity with visualization tools.
  • Must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.

Nice to have

  • 10 or more years of related professional experience.
  • Experience in responsible engineering, systems engineering, Office of the Chief Engineer, or reliability engineering roles on complex aerospace systems.
  • Experience creating engineering standards, review templates, or technical guidance frameworks.
