TL;DR
Avionics Hardware Development Engineer (Aerospace): Designing, manufacturing, and testing mixed-signal avionics hardware for spacecraft and space-manufacturing products with an accent on full-lifecycle ownership, flight qualification, and environmental testing. Focus on designing circuit boards, validating hardware through thermal, vibration, shock, TVAC, and EMI testing, and solving flight-risk failures through root-cause analysis.

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. Must be authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. person due to ITAR-controlled technology access.

Salary: $110,000–$160,000 per year, plus potential stock options and/or long-term cash awards.

Company

hirify.global develops commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing payloads, reentry capsules, heat shields, and satellite buses, with vehicles and equipment built, integrated, and tested in-house.

What you will do

  • Develop mixed-signal avionics designs from requirements definition through qualification and production release.
  • Design electrical circuit boards, including schematic capture, PCB layout, board bring-up, and functional testing.
  • Support avionics architecture trade studies, device selection, performance characterization, risk analysis, and roadmap planning.
  • Collaborate on mechanical fit, form, and function for avionics hardware.
  • Test hardware through thermal, vibration, shock, TVAC, and EMI environments.
  • Create vehicle-level integration test plans and investigate failures to develop flight-risk mitigations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of direct electronics hardware design experience, including schematic capture, PCB layout, and board bring-up.
  • Experience designing flight hardware circuit boards through functional testing on hardware that flew or was qualified for flight.
  • Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, function generators, digital multimeters, and power supplies.
  • Understanding of analog and digital filtering, mixed-signal circuit design, signal integrity, power, grounding, and board layout.
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB, or another scripting and data-analysis language, plus sensor and actuator technologies.

Nice to have

  • Flight avionics experience for aircraft, launch vehicles, or other space applications.
  • Altium Designer schematic and layout experience.
  • Experience with vibration, shock, thermal, and TVAC environmental testing.
  • Launch vehicle avionics systems integration experience.
  • Experience with instrumentation, data acquisition, serial devices, accelerometers, and 4–20 mA sensors.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time employment with flexible PTO and 12 paid holidays.
  • Company-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance, with FSA and employer-matched HSA options.
  • Parental leave, family-building and wellness benefits, and a $120 monthly fitness reimbursement.
  • 401(k) plan with a 6% immediately vested employer match.
  • Relocation support may be available for new hires.
