TL;DR
Senior Avionics Hardware Development Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and delivering flight-critical electrical hardware for satellite buses, reentry vehicles, and customer payloads with an accent on PCB design, power electronics, mixed-signal circuits, and environmental qualification. Focus on defining subsystem requirements, validating hardware through thermal, vibration, shock, TVAC, and EMI testing, and solving root causes of flight risks.

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. The role requires employees working in the United States to be legally authorized to work there and to qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR requirements.

Salary: $160,000–$200,000 per year, plus potential long-term incentives through stock options and/or long-term cash awards.

Company

hirify.global develops commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing payloads, reentry capsules, heat shields, and satellite buses, with vehicles and hardware built, integrated, and tested in-house.

What you will do

  • Design PCB-level electronics across schematic capture, layout, validation, fabrication, assembly, and manufacturing test.
  • Translate mission and company objectives into subsystem requirements, designs, and development milestones.
  • Act as the avionics subject matter expert for satellite, reentry vehicle, and payload hardware while supporting GNC, pharmaceutical, mission operations, and integration teams.
  • Collaborate with flight software, thermal, GNC, and structures teams to evaluate vehicle-level effects of design decisions.
  • Own product acceptance and qualification testing for thermal, vibration, shock, TVAC, and EMI environments, and support vehicle-level integration testing.
  • Perform root cause analysis on test failures, implement flight-risk mitigations, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of direct electronics hardware development experience.
  • Experience designing and delivering flight-critical electrical hardware from schematic capture through environmental qualification for hardware that flew or was flight-qualified.
  • Knowledge of signal integrity, power and grounding board layout, analog/digital filtering, mixed-signal circuits, load switches, and switch-mode DC:DC converters.
  • Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, function generators, digital multimeters, and power supplies, plus programming experience in Python, MATLAB, or another scripting/data analysis language.
  • Experience implementing communication protocols such as SPI, RS422, and 1000BASE-T.

Nice to have

  • Advanced electronic circuit design and analysis skills.
  • Knowledge of physics, mathematics, and chemistry fundamentals relevant to electronics in space environments.
  • Understanding of aerospace sensors and actuators, including RTDs, pressure transducers, brushless motors, solenoid valves, thermocouples, stepper motors, and rotary or linear encoders.

Culture & Benefits

  • Comprehensive benefits for full-time employees, including company-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Flexible PTO, 12 paid holidays, parental leave, and family-building and wellness programs.
  • 401(k) plan with a 6% immediately vested employer match, incentive equity, and cell phone reimbursement.
  • Relocation support for new hires when needed.
  • Daily lunch, twice-weekly dinner, team events, and complimentary EV charging.
