TL;DR
Environmental Health & Safety Sr. Specialist (Aerospace): Managing site-specific EHS programs for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations with an accent on regulatory compliance, hazardous waste management, inspections, and industrial safety. Focus on developing LOTO and other EHS procedures, investigating incidents, managing complex aerospace hazards, and supporting manufacturing and test operations.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; onsite role with up to 25% travel to hirify.global locations in Long Beach, Hawthorne, and the Mojave Test Site. Evening and weekend work may be required for critical mission milestones. The position requires access to U.S. export-controlled information; the successful candidate must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.

Salary: $106,000–$151,000 USD per year

What you will do

  • Implement and maintain site-specific environmental, health, and safety standards while collaborating with Operations, Facilities, and Manufacturing.
  • Manage compliance with CAL OSHA, RCRA, EPA, SCAQMD, DOT, DTSC, and CUPA requirements, including environmental reporting, stormwater, and industrial wastewater programs.
  • Oversee hazardous waste storage, accumulation areas, manifests, waste profiles, inspections, and regulatory reporting under RCRA LQG requirements.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, compliance audits, and corrective-action follow-up across manufacturing, laboratory, construction, and test environments.
  • Support workplace accident and injury investigations, root-cause analysis, emergency response, and corrective-action development.
  • Develop LOTO procedures, review JHAs, coordinate specialized EHS training, and mentor EHS specialists and coordinators.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • 4+ years of experience implementing and overseeing environmental, health, and safety programs.
  • Experience developing and implementing health and safety plans, policies, and compliance programs.
  • Experience with hazardous waste storage and satellite accumulation areas, including RCRA tracking and reporting.
  • Ability to work in construction or industrial settings and stop work or escalate safety concerns when necessary.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, wear required PPE including respirators, and obtain Powered Industrial Truck and Mobile Elevated Work Platform certifications.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on emergency response experience involving hazardous or non-hazardous material releases.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, and Windows applications.
  • Experience in a fast-paced startup environment.
