Summer 2027 Internship - Electrical I&C Engineering (Nuclear)

Location: Los Angeles, CA, United States

Salary: $30–$40 per hour, plus a monthly housing stipend and eligibility for overtime pay.

What you will do

• Assist with the design, analysis, testing, and evaluation of electrical systems from low-voltage DC circuits to high-voltage three-phase power distribution.
• Support instrumentation and control systems for a uranium enrichment facility.
• Perform electrical load calculations, power distribution studies, and analysis of onsite generation, backup power, and microgrid architectures.
• Create and maintain schematics, specifications, wiring diagrams, and engineering design packages.
• Participate in component selection, prototyping, hardware bring-up, debugging, qualification testing, and acceptance testing.
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, software, manufacturing, chemical, and nuclear engineers to develop safe, reliable, manufacturable, and maintainable systems.

Requirements

• Current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related degree.
• Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals and experience with relevant coursework or projects in power systems, instrumentation and controls, circuit design, embedded systems, control systems, or power electronics.
• Ability to solve technical problems using first-principles thinking and sound engineering fundamentals.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Ability to work extended hours and weekends when necessary.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience from internships, research, Formula SAE, robotics, engineering clubs, or personal projects.
• Experience designing, building, testing, or troubleshooting electrical systems.
• Familiarity with electrical CAD tools such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, Altium, or KiCad.
• Experience with PLCs, industrial controls, sensors, data acquisition systems, instrumentation, or electrical protection systems.
• Experience documenting engineering designs and test results, or familiarity with applicable electrical codes and standards.
