Civil Engineering Internship - Summer 2027 (Nuclear Energy)

Location: Onsite opportunities in Alameda, CA; Albuquerque, NM; or Oak Ridge, TN

Salary: $28–$30 per hour for onsite employees in Alameda, CA

What you will do

• Support the design, analysis, and development of advanced reactor civil structures.
• Perform engineering calculations and finite element analyses using hand calculations and tools such as ANSYS.
• Evaluate structural designs under static, dynamic, blast, vibration, thermal, and fatigue loading conditions.
• Develop and maintain 3D models and 2D engineering drawings using CAD software.
• Prepare engineering reports, calculations, technical documentation, and presentations.
• Participate in design reviews, testing, multidisciplinary discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Current student pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Working knowledge of structural mechanics, statics, mechanics of materials, and engineering analysis fundamentals.
• Familiarity with structural analysis, finite element analysis concepts, engineering drawings, and design standards.
• Experience with CAD software and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, organization, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work onsite at one of the listed U.S. locations and comply with applicable export-control access requirements.

Nice to have

• SolidWorks experience.
• Experience with explicit dynamics analysis.
• Experience with Python or Excel Macros.
• Technical experience through laboratory work, research, extracurricular projects, personal projects, or prior internships.
