Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Internship - Summer 2027

Location: Onsite in Alameda, CA; Albuquerque, NM; or Oak Ridge, TN

Salary: $30–$32 per hour for employees working onsite at the Alameda, CA headquarters.

What you will do

• Support the design, analysis, testing, and optimization of mechanical systems, components, and manufacturing processes.
• Conduct experiments, collect and analyze engineering data, and contribute to technical decisions.
• Support prototype fabrication, assembly, commissioning, testing, and manufacturing test-fixture setup.
• Develop engineering drawings, standard operating procedures, technical reports, presentations, and other documentation.
• Participate in troubleshooting, root-cause investigations, design reviews, inspections, and quality checks.
• Collaborate with engineers, technicians, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams while following safety requirements.

Requirements

• Current enrollment in a bachelor's or master's degree program in mechanical, manufacturing, industrial, reliability, systems engineering, or a related discipline.
• Working knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals, including mechanics, materials, manufacturing processes, machine design, thermodynamics, heat transfer, or fluid mechanics.
• Basic proficiency with CAD and engineering analysis tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, ANSYS, MATLAB, or similar software.
• Familiarity with engineering drawings, technical specifications, GD&T, manufacturing processes, quality control, prototyping, and engineering testing.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, communication, teamwork, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work onsite and perform physical activities including climbing ladders or stairs, standing or sitting for extended periods, using hand tools, and moving objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

Nice to have

• Technical experience from laboratory work, research, extracurricular or personal projects, or a prior internship.
• Experience with prototyping, fabrication, manufacturing, or engineering testing equipment.
