TL;DR
Staff Integration and Test Responsible Engineer (Aerospace): Building an integrated hardware-in-the-loop test capability for a Mars science orbiter, spanning spacecraft hardware, flight software, simulation, data acquisition, and automated validation with an accent on end-to-end integration and test ownership. Focus on building always-on CI and regression infrastructure, debugging hardware/software interface failures to root cause, and validating timing-sensitive spacecraft behavior before launch.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States

Salary: $164,000–$246,000 USD annually

Company

hirify.global develops rockets, launch infrastructure, and spacecraft systems, including the Terran R launch vehicle and a Mars science orbiter.

What you will do

  • Design, build, and maintain the integrated hardware-in-the-loop test environment, including racks, avionics, breakout hardware, load emulation, harnesses, and test equipment.
  • Develop simulation, data-acquisition, control, and software-fixturing infrastructure to exercise flight software with real and representative spacecraft hardware.
  • Create automated test frameworks and CI/regression pipelines with automated pass/fail adjudication, regression detection, telemetry, logging, and failure reporting.
  • Debug failures across flight software, avionics, interfaces, harnessing, timing, communications, and test infrastructure through root-cause resolution.
  • Validate timing-sensitive interfaces, longer-duration behavior, and soak-test performance across sensors, actuators, payloads, avionics, and communication buses.
  • Drive final spacecraft integration and test before launch while coordinating with subsystem responsible engineers.

Requirements

  • Degree in computer, electrical, aerospace, or related engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 7+ years of test-engineering experience, including architecture of automated test frameworks for integrated hardware, firmware, and software systems.
  • Strong current software skills for test automation, tooling, validation pipelines, and CI/regression infrastructure.
  • Hands-on hardware and embedded-systems experience, including bench troubleshooting with standard electronics equipment.
  • Familiarity with interfaces including Ethernet, UART, and SPI.
  • Ability to own complex test capabilities end to end and coordinate integrated failure resolution across engineering teams.

Nice to have

  • Experience building HITL, SIL/HIL, test-bench, lab-automation, or integrated-test platforms from scratch.
  • Experience with spacecraft, launch vehicles, satellites, robotics, autonomous systems, aircraft, vehicles, medical devices, or other high-reliability hardware.
  • Hands-on experience with harnessing, cable fabrication, breakout boards, rack wiring, or test-equipment setup.
  • Experience establishing test practices, tools, or team processes in a fast-moving engineering environment.

Culture & Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity.
  • Generous paid time off and sick leave.
  • Parental leave.
  • Annual learning and development stipend.
  • Environment emphasizing autonomy, ownership, cross-functional collaboration, creativity, and technical rigor.
