Software Engineer, Lending (Fintech)

Location: San Francisco, CA, USA; hybrid work with four days a week in the office and Fridays from home for employees near an office.

Salary: $133,000–$184,000 base salary per year, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Own and deliver lending features end-to-end.
• Design, develop, test, refactor, and scale backend implementations for consumer products.
• Build resilient APIs that power the member-facing mobile application.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Risk, Data Science, Analytics, Finance, Operations, and mobile engineering teams.
• Improve system reliability, scalability, maintainability, and technical standards.
• Grow into ownership of larger system components and cross-team technical initiatives.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience building and operating production software at scale.
• Experience with Ruby on Rails or comparable frameworks for designing and running APIs.
• Strong understanding of relational databases, caching, and safe schema changes and migrations.
• Familiarity with distributed systems fundamentals, including asynchronous processing, idempotency, retries, backfills, and high-scale architecture.
• Commitment to maintainable, well-tested code and improving existing systems.
• Strong cross-functional communication, product thinking, experimentation, and impact measurement.

Nice to have

• Experience with fintech, risk systems, data-driven systems, or third-party data integrations.
• Startup experience.
