Software Engineer on Ledger (Fintech)

Location: San Francisco, CA; 5 days a week in the office

Salary: $190,000–$295,000 annual base salary plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Own the double-entry ledger serving as the system of record for balances across all card programs.
• Build credit mechanics including billing-cycle close, statement generation, interest accrual, payment allocation, fees, delinquency, and charge-off.
• Own reconciliation between the sub-ledger and general ledger, including break detection before financial close.
• Set the architecture and determine the delivery order for the ledger and credit systems.
• Work with Finance, Compliance, and partners to define requirements that support audits.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience building production backend systems.
• Meaningful experience with ledgers, core banking, money movement, or payments platforms.
• Experience building a double-entry ledger, card-processing or authorization and settlement infrastructure, or migrating a card or money-movement program to in-house rails.
• Strong distributed-systems and API fundamentals in a modern backend language.
• Knowledge of idempotency, immutability, event sourcing, invariants, and how to prove financial correctness.
• Ability to work onsite in San Francisco five days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with revolving credit, billing cycles, interest accrual, APR, minimum payments, payment waterfalls, installment plans, or Reg Z/TILA.
• Experience with the authorization-to-settlement lifecycle, including clearing, network files, ISO 8583, refunds, reversals, disputes, and chargeback accounting.
• Experience building or rewriting ledgers or issuing platforms at a fintech or payments company.
