Forward Deployed Engineer (Fintech)

Location: San Francisco, United States; in-office five days a week

Salary: $190,000–$295,000 annual starting salary, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Own the technical relationship for new partner launches from initial scoping through the first approved production application.
• Design integrations and determine where application, offer, and card management surfaces belong in each partner’s product flow.
• Write integration guides and API specifications, and build sandbox tooling that enables partners to self-serve.
• Decide which partner requests require bespoke solutions and which should become supported platform features.
• Improve the integration platform so each subsequent launch is faster and more repeatable.
• Travel to partners, run onsite workshops, and coordinate risk, compliance, processor, and bank stakeholders to remove launch blockers.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience building production backend systems, including work delivered with partners or customers.
• Strong systems expertise, with the ability to understand end-to-end flows and debug third-party integrations.
• Ability to lead technical discussions with partner engineers and explain trade-offs to business stakeholders.
• Strong product judgment around application, offer, and servicing experiences in partner journeys.
• Sound judgment when distinguishing bespoke partner work from scalable platform capabilities.
• Ability to work in the San Francisco office five days a week and travel to partners.

Nice to have

• Experience in fintech, payments, or card issuing, especially with processors, networks, or bank partners.
• Prior experience in forward deployed, solutions, or deployed engineering at a platform company.
• Experience with API design and developer experience, including OpenAPI, SDKs, code generation, sandbox environments, and versioning.
• Experience turning a one-off customer build into a reusable product feature.
