Senior Software Engineer - Python Control Software (f/m/d)

Location: Siegen, Germany; relocation to either Siegen or Hamburg is required

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, and deploy backend services for professional quantum computing use.
• Build APIs and data interfaces integrating hardware components across the quantum computing stack.
• Improve scalability, maintainability, performance, and reliability of backend systems and data-processing pipelines.
• Implement logging, monitoring, alerting, and security improvements for robust systems.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, software documentation, and code reviews.
• Collaborate with physicists, engineers, and cross-functional teams to align software architecture with hardware requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• At least five years of professional experience developing portable and scalable control systems.
• Strong Python programming skills and experience writing production-ready code.
• Experience with SQL or NoSQL databases and data modelling.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD tools, software architecture, and scalable design patterns.
• Fluent English communication and writing skills; the role requires the right to work in Germany.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in computer science or electrical engineering.
• Background in robotics, aviation, automotive, or quantum technologies.
• Experience with high-performance computing, quantum systems, programmatic device control, quantum controller electronics, oscilloscopes, or emulators.
