Test Engineer

Location: Onsite at the Mojave Test Site in Mojave, California, United States. Must be able to work varying shifts, extended hours, and weekends when needed. The role involves working in an extreme desert environment and maneuvering in tight spaces.

Salary: $86,000–$190,000 USD per year, depending on level and experience.

What you will do

• Develop and execute testing for components and assemblies across ECLSS, propulsion, and ground support systems.
• Design, analyze, manufacture, operate, and own test stands and test setups.
• Prepare and execute test campaigns with responsible and design engineers.
• Create professional, traceable electrical, mechanical, and fluid documentation, including P&IDs.
• Conduct Test Readiness Reviews before test execution and perform structured root cause analysis of failures.
• Mentor engineers and technicians while improving test processes, quality, safety, cost, and schedule.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another engineering discipline.
• 3+ years of experience in an engineering environment, including testing, launch, manufacturing, or engineering clubs.
• Experience writing and executing test plans and procedures, designing instrumentation systems, and selecting precision sensors.
• Experience with environmental testing standards such as SMC-S-016, GEVS NASA-STD-7000A, or MIL-STD-810G.
• Experience with high-pressure gas and oxidizer systems, including GOX and N2O.
• Ability to work varying shifts and extended hours, handle items up to 25 lbs, and work in extreme desert conditions.
• Must be a U.S. person under U.S. export-control rules or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.

Nice to have

• Experience with NI, Beckhoff, or Dewesoft DAQ software and hardware.
• Experience in structural design and analysis of test fixtures, CAD systems such as NX, and P&ID tools such as Visio or Lucidchart.
• Experience with Smartsheet or Microsoft Project, SVN or Git, Teamcenter, Jira, or Confluence.
• Experience planning engineering operations in time-sensitive, high-risk environments.
