TL;DR
Senior Development Test Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and operating test equipment and programs for liquid rocket propulsion and spacecraft systems with an accent on fluid, mechanical, electrical, thermal, structural, and controls engineering. Focus on building test stands, troubleshooting complex hardware, operating aerospace test facilities, and validating rapidly developed spaceflight hardware.

Location: Redondo Beach, United States; onsite. Travel to Mojave and other locations may be required. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, protected individuals, or eligible to obtain the authorizations required under ITAR.

Salary: $110,000–$180,000 per year, plus potential stock options and benefits.

What you will do

  • Design and build fluid, mechanical, and electrical systems for liquid rocket propulsion and spacecraft testing.
  • Own test assets and major test programs from design through operation.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, external vendors, and contractors to meet technical and schedule objectives.
  • Prepare test setups, inspect and check out hardware, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Conduct test operations for rapidly developed spaceflight hardware.
  • Resolve technical problems with innovative and resourceful solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in hardware development testing.
  • Strong fundamentals in thermal, structural, and fluids analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with aerospace test facilities and ownership of test stand design and build-up.
  • Ability to create and communicate fluid P&IDs, electrical and controls schematics, identify appropriate test equipment, and use data acquisition and control methods.
  • Demonstrated project ownership and ability to work effectively in small teams.

Nice to have

  • Experience with cryogenic propellants, high-pressure gas systems, hydraulics, or combustion devices.
  • Hands-on experience with valves, regulators, sensors, power supplies, tube fabrication, metalworking, and wiring.
  • Hardware testing experience with rocket engines or spacecraft.
  • Startup or agile development experience.
