Director Engineering (AI)

Location: New York, NY, USA or San Francisco, CA, USA; four days a week in the office and Fridays from home for employees near an office.

Salary: $269,000–$373,000 base salary per year, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Own the multi-quarter engineering strategy and roadmap for the AI & App Experience organization.
• Lead consumer-facing AI experiences, AI platform infrastructure, app journeys, and shared design systems.
• Build, hire, and develop a leadership bench of technical managers and senior technical staff.
• Set technical direction and architectural alignment for AI-native, member-facing products.
• Partner with Product, Design, Data Science, and Risk leadership on product strategy and investment decisions.
• Maintain operational excellence across services through on-call, monitoring, and incident response practices.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years managing managers or leading multi-team engineering organizations.
• Experience building and scaling AI/LLM-powered consumer products.
• Experience hiring, developing, and retaining engineering leaders and Staff+ individual contributors.
• Strong technical fundamentals in relevant technologies such as React Native, Python or Ruby on Rails, GraphQL, and distributed systems.
• Experience translating company and product strategy into multi-quarter engineering plans.
• Experience partnering with Product, Design, Data Science, and Risk or Compliance teams in regulated or high-trust environments.
