Director of Engineering (AI)

Location: Palo Alto, United States — hybrid

Salary: $240,000–$310,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Set the strategic direction and organizational structure for the engineering organization.
• Build and scale a high-performing engineering organization, including hiring, performance management, career progression, and conflict resolution.
• Drive roadmap priorities and delivery across application scaling, new AI-powered products, and the core platform.
• Guide the adoption of modern LLM methodologies and applied AI techniques for high-impact healthcare problems.
• Modernize the platform to support a scaling application layer and make technical decisions across the organization.
• Partner with executive leadership and major client accounts to align priorities and demonstrate value-based contract outcomes.

Requirements

• 10–15+ years of engineering experience, including 4+ years as a people manager.
• Experience growing an engineering team from a small group to 10+ people and managing 10–15+ engineers directly or through managers.
• Strong full-cycle people management skills, including performance management, conflict resolution, and career development.
• High comfort with system design and architecture discussions, plus hands-on coding ability.
• Technical breadth across backend engineering, applied AI/ML, platform or distributed systems, and production applications.
• Prior experience as an engineering technical lead before moving into management.
