Director, AI Platform Engineering

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, Boston, Waltham, or New York, United States

Base salary: $200,000–$230,000 annually, depending on location, experience, skills, education, and performance. Additional discretionary bonus and/or equity awards may be available.

What you will do

• Define and execute the technical roadmap for a next-generation enterprise AI agent platform.
• Architect multi-agent orchestration, LLM routing, tool integration, observability, multi-tenancy, security, and scalability.
• Lead and mentor a team of 8–15 platform engineers across backend, infrastructure, and AI/ML.
• Own reliability, availability, performance SLAs, production readiness, incident response, and capacity planning.
• Drive architectural decisions, build-versus-buy evaluations, and platform standardization across LangGraph, MCP, and AG-UI.
• Build developer-facing APIs, SDKs, documentation, and self-service tooling while collaborating with product, data science, and business stakeholders.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in engineering leadership and management.
• Experience building and operating production API, data, or ML platforms used by multiple teams.
• Strong experience with multi-agent orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph, CrewAI, or AutoGen, and with MCP or similar tool-integration standards.
• Hands-on knowledge of LLM APIs, including OpenAI, Anthropic, and AWS Bedrock, plus agent frameworks and prompt engineering.
• Strong systems design skills covering distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architecture.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Python, FastAPI, and asynchronous backend patterns.

Nice to have

• Experience in financial services or other regulated industries, including compliance, audit trails, and data governance.
• Experience with SSE, WebSocket, AG-UI, data mesh, GraphQL, dbt, or data catalogs.
• Exposure to Module Federation, micro-frontend architectures, open-source AI/ML contributions, or scaling a platform from 0 to 1.
