Director, AI Platform Engineering

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, Boston, Waltham, or New York, United States

Salary: USD 200,000–230,000 per year, plus potential discretionary bonus and/or equity awards

What you will do

• Define the technical roadmap and architecture for a production-grade, multi-tenant AI agent platform.
• Lead multi-agent orchestration, LLM routing, tool integration, observability, and platform standardization across LangGraph, MCP, and AG-UI.
• Build, lead, and mentor a team of 8–15 platform engineers across backend, infrastructure, and AI/ML.
• Own platform reliability, availability, performance SLAs, production readiness, incident response, and capacity planning.
• Drive architectural decisions, build-versus-buy evaluations, security, compliance, and audit readiness.
• Deliver APIs, SDKs, documentation, and self-service tooling for internal and external platform users.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience and 5+ years in engineering leadership or management, including managing managers or large teams.
• Experience building and operating production API, data, or ML platforms used by multiple teams.
• Experience with multi-agent orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph, CrewAI, or AutoGen, plus Model Context Protocol or similar standards.
• Hands-on knowledge of LLM APIs, agent frameworks, prompt engineering, and modern AI/ML technologies.
• Strong systems design experience with distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architecture.
• Production cloud-native infrastructure experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, and Python/FastAPI backend development.

Nice to have

• Financial services or regulated-industry experience, including compliance, audit trails, and data governance.
• Experience with SSE, WebSocket, AG-UI, data mesh, GraphQL, dbt, or data catalogs.
• Exposure to Module Federation or micro-frontend architectures.
• Open-source contributions or community leadership in AI/ML.
• Experience scaling a platform from 0 to 1 through growth stages.
