CAD/3D Electrical Designer IV

Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland, United States. Local candidates work hybrid; nonlocal candidates may work remotely. Hours are 8:00am–5:00pm, Monday–Friday. Travel expectation: 10%.

Salary: $115,000–$140,000 per year.

Develops advanced reactor and plant systems, including the design and integration of structures, systems, and components.

What you will do

• Create 3D CAD models and detailed 2D drawings for equipment, plant layouts, structures, systems, components, piping arrangements, PFDs, P&IDs, and isometric drawings.
• Assess designs for manufacturability, assembly, integration, maintenance access, and interface compatibility.
• Prepare and update manufacturing drawings, technical data packs, bills of materials, design calculations, and related engineering documentation.
• Develop and maintain piping and plant layout models in S3D, including pipe routing, supports, equipment arrangements, and interference resolution.
• Maintain CAD data, PLM, and plant design environment compatibility while following design procedures, filing standards, and industry best practices.
• Lead core work independently, guide junior designers, and lead small groups solving complex technical problems.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in drafting, CAD, engineering, or a related field, or a high school diploma with comparable experience.
• Typically 10 years of experience as a CAD, 3D drafter, or designer; equivalent relevant experience may be accepted.
• Experience with 3D CAD software such as NX, SolidWorks, or PTC Creo, or with 2D CAD software such as AutoCAD, SmartPlant Electrical, MicroStation, or Revit.
• Knowledge of electrical engineering codes and safety standards, or experience designing and specifying electrical and power systems.
• Experience with PLM software such as Teamcenter or Windchill.
• Local candidates must be able to work in the hybrid arrangement; nonlocal candidates may work remotely within the United States.

Nice to have

• 3–5 years of SmartPlant Electrical experience.
• Experience with FOAK designs, vendor coordination, Design for Manufacturing, and Design for Assembly.
