Mechanical Design Engineer (Steam Generator)

Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland; four days a week in the office. Working hours are 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday.

Salary: $130,950–$218,250 for Level V or $140,550–$234,250 for Level VI per year, base salary.

What you will do

• Develop mechanical concepts and components for nuclear products and facilities, with a focus on nuclear safety.
• Define requirements, interfaces, design bases, criteria, industry codes, and standards with systems engineers and project stakeholders.
• Perform structural, thermal, hydraulic, and other engineering calculations using hand calculations and analytical tools.
• Develop CAD models and design solutions for pressure vessels, piping, reactor internals, nuclear fuel, and high-temperature materials.
• Support prototyping, testing, commissioning, manufacturability, assembly, integration, and production activities.
• Prepare design documentation, verification and validation plans, independent reviews, and acceptance reviews while mentoring junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
• Typically 15–20 years of engineering experience; a master’s or Ph.D. may substitute for part of the experience requirement.
• Proficiency with engineering hand calculations.
• Experience designing and developing mechanical or fluid systems, assemblies, or components.
• At least one year of hands-on experience delivering hardware or manufacturing processes in a production environment, including manufacturing and testing oversight.
• Experience with CAD and PLM software such as UG/NX, SolidWorks, Pro/Engineer, Teamcenter, Windchill, or similar.

Nice to have

• Experience with piping, ducting, HVAC, fire suppression systems, pumps, or valves.
• Experience with nuclear, aerospace, chemical, or other related engineering applications.
