Software Engineer (Hybrid) - 29116

Location: Hybrid in Columbia, Maryland, US; average attendance at the Columbia office 1–2 days per week is required. U.S. citizenship and an active Secret-level U.S. Government Security Clearance are required.

Salary: $115,199–$140,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and implement complex Java-based software capabilities for computer-based systems.
• Build enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, and microservices-based solutions.
• Integrate Claude Code, Gemini, or similar autonomous coding agents into daily engineering workflows.
• Use AI agents for multi-file feature implementation, codebase refactoring, and automated unit and integration test generation.
• Guide agents through multi-repository architectures and audit generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment.
• Collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot issues, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality client solutions.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of software engineering experience with modern Java frameworks and libraries, or an equivalent education and experience combination.
• Experience with enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, microservices architecture, and object-oriented programming.
• Experience with Agile software development, configuration management tools such as Git, Nexus, and Maven, and the Linux command line.
• Strong testing, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and information review skills.
• Active Secret-level U.S. Government Security Clearance and U.S. citizenship are required.
• DoD 8140 / 8570 compliance certification must be obtained within 60 days of employment; hybrid office attendance is required.

Nice to have

• Active Top Secret clearance.
• Cloud experience with AWS or Azure.
• Experience with distributed or NoSQL databases and search engines such as Elasticsearch, MongoDB, or Solr.
• Scripting experience and familiarity with data lakes or warehouses.
• Experience with JIRA, Confluence, GitHub Enterprise, or similar development tool suites.
