Software Engineer (Java/Kotlin)

Location: Hybrid in Columbia, Maryland, United States; average of 1–2 days per week in the office

Salary: $111,662–$155,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, develop, and implement complex software capabilities for computer-based systems.
• Build Java- and Kotlin-based software using modern frameworks and libraries.
• Design enterprise APIs and develop RESTful web services within microservices architectures.
• Collaborate with engineers to deliver high-quality software solutions for client needs.
• Test, troubleshoot, and support multiple development deadlines.
• Keep current with emerging software development technologies.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Current U.S. Government security clearance is not required on day one, but clearance processing will be initiated; existing Secret or TS clearance may be considered.
• At least 5 years of software engineering experience with modern Java frameworks and libraries, plus a related bachelor’s degree; equivalent master’s-level or experience-based qualifications are accepted.
• Experience with enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, microservices, object-oriented programming, and the agile software lifecycle.
• Experience with Linux and configuration management tools such as Git, Nexus, and Maven.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment with 1–2 office days per week in Columbia, Maryland.

Nice to have

• Cloud-native experience with AWS or Azure.
• Experience with distributed databases, NoSQL, Elasticsearch, MongoDB, or Solr.
• Kotlin, Docker, and Kubernetes experience.
• Exposure to big data platforms and tools such as Jira, Confluence, and GitHub.
• Ability to obtain or maintain DoD 8140 / 8570 IAT Level II compliance certifications.
