Senior Software Engineer - 5G Devices

Location: Carlsbad, California or Germantown, Maryland, United States

Salary: $165,000–$260,500 annually. For specific locations in San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City metropolitan area: $205,000–$307,000 annually.

What you will do

• Design modular software architectures, abstraction layers, middleware, interfaces, and APIs for 5G user equipment and customer premises equipment operating over satellite networks.
• Integrate 5G modem chipsets from vendors such as Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Intel, including modem initialization, configuration, power management, and runtime behavior.
• Develop Linux kernel device drivers and board support customizations for PCIe, USB, SDIO, UART, and other hardware interfaces.
• Create SDKs, reference designs, sample code, documentation, and golden implementations for OEM and ODM partners.
• Build validation frameworks, conduct profiling and performance optimization, and support field trials and customer deployments.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers, chipset vendors, product management, application teams, and external manufacturers while mentoring software engineers.

Requirements

• US citizenship or permanent residence required.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of embedded software development experience for wireless communication devices and 5+ years of hands-on 5G/LTE modem integration or device-side cellular protocol implementation.
• Experience architecting and delivering commercial 5G UE or CPE products, integrating 5G chipsets, and working with 3GPP UE protocol stacks and 5G NR technologies.
• Expert-level C/C++, Linux kernel development, device drivers, kernel debugging, hardware interfaces, Android BSP or embedded Linux distributions such as Yocto or Buildroot.
• Experience with SDKs or reference designs, embedded architecture, technical documentation, hardware-software debugging, Agile/Scrum, and cross-functional collaboration.

Nice to have

• Experience with satellite-terrestrial convergence, hybrid connectivity, 5G IoT, NB-IoT, LTE-M, or industrial 5G applications.
• Wireless protocol testing, certification processes, open-source wireless or embedded Linux contributions, secure boot, trusted execution environments, or embedded security experience.
