Staff Engineer (Engineering & Reliability)

Location: Hybrid working model in Romania, based at Expo Business Park

What you will do

• Act as a technical authority for engineering and reliability practices across ING Romania.
• Drive adoption of the One Engineering System, shared platforms, golden paths, common pipelines, observability, and developer tooling.
• Bridge global Engineering & Reliability direction with local engineering teams and stakeholders.
• Improve software delivery, system reliability, resilience, and operational quality with architects, product owners, SREs, DevOps engineers, and platform teams.
• Guide architecture reviews, incident follow-ups, engineering assessments, resilience validation, and reliability improvements.
• Mentor senior engineers and technical leads while contributing to documentation, training, and reusable engineering patterns.

Requirements

• Extensive experience in software engineering, platform engineering, SRE, DevOps, solution architecture, or reliability engineering.
• Experience influencing technical direction across multiple teams, products, or domains.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, scalable architectures, cloud-native technologies, containers, Kubernetes, microservices, and APIs.
• Experience with CI/CD, automation, observability, monitoring, logging, distributed tracing, SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and resilience engineering.
• Knowledge of infrastructure as code, platform engineering, databases, high-availability concepts, and Java, Kotlin, Python, or similar languages.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, information systems, software engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Nice to have

• Experience in highly regulated, high-availability, or business-critical environments.
• Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Prometheus, ELK, GitOps, pipeline-as-code, developer portals, and engineering dashboards.
• Experience with performance testing, chaos engineering, fault injection, or disaster recovery validation.
