Engineering Manager, Email

Location: Chicago, United States; hybrid work

Salary: $160,162–$282,952 per year base pay for candidates based in the United States; expected OTE of $180,000–$318,000 per year, including bonus or commission.

What you will do

• Lead the Email engineering team responsible for infrastructure delivering billions of personalized emails each month.
• Build and scale highly parallelized email personalization and sending systems.
• Develop REST APIs for managing and tracking user subscriptions, preference-management web pages, and customer email-domain dashboards.
• Partner with product, design, and engineers to deliver features based on customer feedback and growing message volumes.
• Guide architectural decisions and contribute code in high-leverage situations.
• Own the team’s vision, goals, processes, hiring, coaching, and professional development.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with a strong record of success.
• 2+ years leading high-performing engineering teams.
• Experience building foundational systems at scale and leading software projects that materially advanced organizational goals.
• Ability to operate autonomously, take responsibility, communicate effectively, and make difficult technical trade-offs.
• Ability to engage deeply with technical details to inform engineering decisions.

Nice to have

• Professional experience with Ruby, Rails, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, Sidekiq, JavaScript, or React.
