Senior Privacy & AI Counsel

Location: San Francisco, United States; hybrid

Salary: $180,000–$250,000 per year plus equity

hirify.global is an ambitious healthcare startup building an AI-powered platform that trains, enables, and supports family caregivers while helping health plans and government partners improve care at home.

What you will do

• Own the privacy program, including HIPAA compliance, state privacy laws, BAAs, data mapping, ROPA, individual rights workflows, and incident response.
• Own the AI governance program, including responsible AI policies, use-case intake and review, model risk classification, monitoring, and AI incident response.
• Review internal generative and agentic AI tools and AI-powered product features such as chart updates, documentation extraction, and clinical decision support.
• Advise Product, Engineering, Operations, and Clinical teams on privacy and AI risks through product requirements, design documents, model cards, and design reviews.
• Lead regulatory change management, outside counsel relationships, Board reporting, and the BAA program.
• Hire, develop, and lead the privacy and AI legal team as it grows.

Requirements

• JD from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 7+ years of legal experience with substantial privacy and AI work; healthcare or healthcare technology experience is strongly preferred.
• Deep knowledge of HIPAA/HITECH, U.S. state privacy laws, and the emerging U.S. state AI law landscape.
• Experience building or materially rebuilding AI governance programs, including responsible AI policies, use-case review, model risk classification, and product review.
• Experience leading privacy incident response, regulator-facing notifications, breach analysis, and remediation.
• Experience advising on healthcare AI deployment, including FDA SaMD/CDS analysis, clinical decision support governance, and patient-facing AI disclosures.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with 42 CFR Part 2, the 21st Century Cures Act information blocking rules, and state Medicaid confidentiality requirements.
• Familiarity with NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001, and other AI assurance frameworks.
• Experience with state Medicaid agencies, MCOs, or other government payors.
• Experience hiring and leading a small legal or privacy team.
• IAPP certifications, especially CIPP/US; AIGP and CIPM are useful.
