Software Engineer (AI Integration)

Location: Hybrid in Columbia, Maryland, United States; 1–2 days per week in the office. U.S. citizenship required.

Salary: $115,199–$145,000 per year

What you will do

• Design and develop Python-based components for the core agentic platform and proprietary data lake tool.
• Deploy, manage, and scale containerized applications in Kubernetes environments.
• Build Model Context Protocol servers and reusable AI skills for function calling and tool use.
• Connect internal databases, microservices, Java-based APIs, and external APIs to autonomous agents.
• Implement enterprise AI guardrails covering data privacy, sensitive-data scrubbing, prompt-injection defense, and output validation.
• Develop automated testing pipelines for non-deterministic AI outputs and troubleshoot issues across multiple deadlines.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of software engineering experience with strong Python backend development, or an equivalent education and experience combination.
• Hands-on Kubernetes experience managing containerized workloads.
• Production experience integrating commercial LLM APIs or open-source models into backend applications.
• Understanding of prompt engineering, agents, function calling, tool use, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation.
• Experience with enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, microservices, Git, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Linux command line.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance; hybrid attendance in Columbia, Maryland is required.

Nice to have

• Active Secret or Top Secret clearance.
• Java or Spring familiarity and Python AI integration frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, CrewAI, or AutoGen.
• Experience with vector databases, semantic caching, AI observability, NiFi, Kafka, AWS, Azure, SQL, NoSQL, or distributed databases.
• Experience with big data platforms or data lake architectures.
• DoD 8140 / 8570 IAT Level II compliance certifications.
