Staff Software Engineering Manager (Robotics)

Location: Redwood City, California, United States

Salary: $253,000–$309,000 per year plus a discretionary annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership, define engineering direction, and establish coding, architecture, and development best practices.
• Build and manage a high-performing software engineering team through hiring, onboarding, mentoring, coaching, and career development.
• Partner with product managers, designers, technical program managers, and stakeholders to define project scope, priorities, resources, and timelines.
• Drive delivery of complex software projects while balancing technical quality and business objectives.
• Resolve complex technical problems and guide the team toward reliable software solutions.
• Engage senior leaders and executives, manage expectations, and maintain alignment on technical strategies and priorities.

Requirements

• Significant professional experience as a software engineer and proven experience leading or managing software engineering teams.
• Strong expertise in one or more programming languages and technology stacks, such as Rust, C++, or Python.
• Experience with software development methodologies, engineering best practices, architectural patterns, code reviews, testing strategies, and continuous integration.
• Strong project management, prioritization, resource allocation, analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Nice to have

• Experience in a startup environment.
• Autonomous robot software development experience.
• Knowledge of cloud technologies such as Docker or Podman, Terraform, security protocols, and elastic scaling.
• Experience with embedded computing technologies including Ubuntu or Debian Linux, Systemd, and Ostree.
