What you will do

  • Advise on Materials & Processes requirements for intravehicular and extravehicular spacecraft environments.
  • Select, assess, and certify custom and commercial spaceflight hardware for flammability, toxicity, vacuum outgassing, corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking.
  • Define testing and certification requirements and evaluate project-level test results for compliance.
  • Review spacecraft hardware drawings, project documentation, and vendor processes against Materials & Processes requirements.
  • Prepare technical reports and Materials & Processes documentation, including certifications, process specifications, and test plans.
  • Communicate project status and risks with internal and external customers, stakeholders, and leadership, including during milestone reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field with 2–7 years of experience, or a relevant master’s degree with 1–5 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of metallic and nonmetallic materials specifications, properties, and testing.
  • Ability to solve complex problems proactively, work in ambiguous and fast-moving environments, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong organization, collaboration, communication, technical rigor, and execution skills.
  • Eligibility for access to export-controlled technical data may require additional U.S. export control screening under NASA regulations, ITAR, or EAR.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends when needed for critical project milestones.
